Can Speech Pathologists who have private practices reject people who dont have private insurance?
I was laid off of my job and my inusurance has ended. In the meanwhile, I need to see a Speech and Language Pathologist. I called a private practice near my home, and she asked me if I had private insurance and I said, "no, I will pay with cash." She then referred me to the local hospital and hung up the phone. Is this ethical of the profession? If not I am going to report her.

- It was neither kind nor professional, but as a private practitioner, she can accept or refuse whomever she wants. KJL
- yes because they are a private establishment.
- Maybe not polite but they are right. If you don't have a prof. relationship with the Speech Pathologist there's no patient-Dr relationship. That's why they are called Private Practices.
- Hello! I don't know anything about how your medical system works, but from what I read if your not insured your in trouble. But don't give up.Check with your local hospital, and can you not take out insurance cover on your own?Private practices can do what they like, and it is your word against hers. I wouldn't bother reporting her, more trouble than it's worth. But Good Luck anyway.
